 PRESS RELEASE

The Green and Virtual Data Center by Greg Schulz of StorageIO

Industry Veteran Greg Schulz of StorageIO Reveals Leading-Edge Green IT Strategies in “The Green and Virtual Data Center” Book

StorageIO Founder Greg Schulz Launches the Definitive Book for Enabling Virtualized, Efficient and Cost-Effective Green IT Computing Environments

Stillwater, Minn.– January 27, 2009  – The StorageIO Group (www.storageio.com), a leading independent IT industry analyst and consultancy firm, in conjunction with publisher Auerbach Publications/CRC Press, today announced the release of “The Green and Virtual Data Center,” a new book by noted author and StorageIO founder Greg Schulz. The book focuses on the idea that IT infrastructure resources configured and deployed in a highly virtualized manner can be combined with other techniques and technologies to achieve a simplified and cost-effective delivery of IT services in a clean, green, and profitable manner. StorageIO is also announcing the launch of www.thegreenandvirtualdatacenter.com, a new website providing information for enabling and deploying eco-friendly next-generation data centers.

“The Green and Virtual Data Center” sets aside the political aspects of what is or is not considered green to examine the opportunities for organizations trying to grow their business while being environmentally friendly in an economically efficient manner. Addressing multiple technology domains and disciplines, it looks at design and implementation tradeoffs using various best practices and technologies to sustain application and business growth while maximizing resources, such as power, cooling, floor space, storage, server performance, and network capacity.

Throughout the book’s pages, savvy industry veteran Greg Schulz provides real-world insight while addressing best practices, as well as server, software, storage, networking, and facilities issues that current or next-generation virtual data centers are facing today.

Some of the topics include:

 Energy and data footprint reductions

 Cloud-based storage and computing

 Intelligent and adaptive power management

 Server, storage, and networking virtualization

Tiered servers for storage, network, and data centers

 Energy avoidance and energy efficiency

“In his new book, Greg Schulz presents a concise and visionary perspective on the green issues. He cuts through the hype and explains where to start and what the options are for organizations looking to get more out of their existing resources,” said Greg Brunton of EDS, an HP company. “I find ‘The Green and Virtual Data Center’ to be a great place to start your green journey and a useful handbook to have as the journey continues.”

“Many technologies already exist today while others are emerging, allowing a green and efficient virtual data center to sustain business growth with reasonable return on investment,” said Schulz. “This book presents virtually all critical data center technologies and techniques, as well as the interdependencies that need to be supported to enable a dynamic, energy-efficient, economical, and green IT data center.”

The Green and Virtual Data Center has 376 pages, with more than 100 figures and tables, 11 chapters plus appendices, as well as a glossary. ISBN-10: 1420086669, ISBN-13: 978-1420086669, publication of January 2009. Books can be purchased now at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, CRCPress.com and other venues around the world at an MSRP of US$79.95.
